ThingsBoard IoT Logging
After a reasonable amount of research (in 2019) into IoT logging servers with attractive dashboards, I found ThingsBoard, running on an Amazon LightSail server to be both the most versatile and cost effective solution. Offerings such as Adafruit IO were very good an easy to get running, but you only need a few devices to exceed the free tier, at which point it becomes more expensive than LightSail. Another contender was ThingSpeak, but the dashboards seemed limited and less versatile than ThingsBoard.
While powerful, some ways of doing things in ThingsBoard can seem a little strange or difficult to figure out. Below are my notes from various tasks carried out on my ThingsBoard server, to pull my projects together.
